Cataclysms and Creation

It’s been well over a month since I wrote an update about Teskooano - but in that time a lot of changes have happened under the hood - and now, you can view our own home system - Sol!

A screenshot of the Earth solar system in Teskooano

As well as improved N-Body algorithims, there is also a new “ideal” mode that provides an Orrery mode where planets will run along on fixed orbits, rather than fly off in to the depths of space!

Release Highlights

  • New physics system build from the ground up with new algorithims and integrators
  • New multi-star lighting system that provides real colour and luminocity based on star type, celestial albedo and distance
  • New multi-shadow system that casts multiple shadows on celestials from moons, and casting shadows on ring systems
  • New comet celestial type that has a coma and tail system that reacts to the distance and position of the star their orbit
  • New information panels for celestials that give information about light, shadows, gravity and other details
  • Improved travel camera and notification system
  • New celestial labels with distance and speed along with the celestial name
  • New AU labels that go out to 100,000 AU - the labels also react to celestials so disappear to have less clutter on the screenshot
  • Prediction and orbit line improvements, with prediction labels showing the time a celestial will take to travel
  • Improved procedural solar system generation

… and many more improvements.

You can follow along with development on the official Teskooano Mastodon where I post the occasional video dev diary.
